Request-to-exit (REX / Push Button / Break Glass / Push bar / Panic Button / Remote control) devices for allowing egress. When a REX button is pushed, or the motion detector detects motion at the door, the door alarm is temporarily ignored while the door is opened. Exiting a door without having to electrically unlock the door is called mechanical free egress. In cases where the lock must be electrically unlocked on exit, the request-to-exit device also unlocks the door.

Many options such as exit buttons, hands-free infrared which is touch less push button, or touch sensitive devices make it an ideal choice for releasing magnetic locks or door strikes. A magnetic door switch, door contact or reed switch for monitoring door position. Magnetic contact is a door and window sensor that functions using an internal reed switch in conjunction with a magnet. This is the most common way for a door and window sensor to operate. A Magnetic door sensor is an alarm sensor that is triggered by movement. It consists of two parts encased in a plastic shell – a magnet and a sensor/switch. A door contact sensor is a peripheral security sensor that lets an alarm system know whether a door is opened or closed. When a door is opened, the sensor will activate and let the system know about the situation.
